HISTORICAL SOCIETY of SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SEEKS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The Historical Society of Southern California (HSSC) seeks applications for the part-time position of executive director. The executive director works with the board of directors to carry out the Society’s mission to interpret and promote the diverse history of Southern California and the West.
As the oldest historical society in California, HSSC publishes the Southern California Quarterly, the premier vehicle for historical studies and scholarship about the region. It also presents educational programs and awards that recognize the most significant recent scholarship and teaching in the field.
Working directly with the board, the director manages the ongoing business and professional affairs of the Society, including the annual budget, publication of the Quarterly, fundraising and membership activities, and the HSSC website. Candidates should have a minimum of three years of experience in the non-profit sector, a BA in history or a related field, and strong computer skills, including experience with QuickBooks and WordPress. Advanced degree in any field preferred. Development experience, including fundraising and grant-writing, strongly preferred. The position is for 15 hours per week on a flexible schedule at a rate of $30 an hour.
