2018 Annual Conference
“From the Cold War to the Space Race: Science, Technology, and Society in Southern California”

Science and technology have had a profound influence on the institutions, industries, traditions, and people of southern California. For our 2018 annual conference, the Historical Society of Southern California will focus on these themes and their interplay with regional history in the 20th and 21st centuries.
Topics may include, but are not limited to:
- The Cold War
- Aerospace in southern California
- Post WW2 politics
- Technology’s influence on regional development
- Hollywood and how film has shaped American ideas about space
Preference will be given to panel or roundtable submissions. Those submitting panels or roundtables should include a brief (100-word) description of the panel, a 250-word abstract for each presentation, and a one-page CV for each panel or roundtable participant.
Those submitting individual papers should include a 250-word abstract and a one-page CV.
AV requests should be included for each presenter in the proposal. All program participants must pre-register for the conference.
Proposals are due Friday, September 8, 2017, by 11:59PM PST.
