From January to September 1865, Charles M. Jenkins, the only Los Angeles-area resident to see combat for the Union Army during the Civil War, kept a diary of his experiences in Virginia during and after the final days of the conflict. This remarkable document was forgotten in storage for over 60 years until it was unearthed last year. Join us to hear about this amazing story.
Speakers include:
Louis Di Donato, Retired educator and author of a Charles Jenkins biography.
Wayne Sherman, Drum Barracks Civil War Museum Board of Directors vice-president and collector and researcher on Charles Jenkins.
Paul R. Spitzzeri, Homestead Museum Director and transcriber of the Charles Jenkins diary.
The event is free, but reservations are requested in Eventbrite: https://hsscnov9.eventbrite.com
